International Women’s Day 2018
Women Development Cell and Internal Complaint Cell Gujarat University celebrated the International Women’s Day on Thursday, 8th March 2018 with a lot of enthusiasm and zest. The programme involved a cultural programme by the students of different PG departments on the campus, an exciting Quiz competition for the audience and proactive faculty participation. The programme started with the University song and Ganesh stuti very creatively presented by Ms. Priyanka Pati (Oddissi) and Ms. Kruti Bhavsar (Kathak), from Department of Botany, Bioinformatics and Climate Change Impacts management. This was followed by a solo song by Mr. Prashant Arya from Department of Microbiology. He had won the first prize in Pratibha competitions and sang gujarati folk songs and enthralled the audience. The gujarati garba, an all time favourite was next presented by the students from Department of Botany, Bioinformatics and Climate Change Impacts Management. The energy and the enthusiasm was palpable when the students danced gracefully in their beautiful attires. The students from Department of Commerce presented a skit on the theme of Save the girl Child-a very creative representation with an element of awareness and sensitization. The skit had won the first prize in Pratibha competitions and was directed by Prof. Sodha from Department of Commerce. A guest performance by Ms. Anjali kept the audience spell bound. It was a very graceful Bharatanatyam dance performed with a story line and an element of drama. The First Prize winners of group dance during Pratibha Competitions, Students from Department of Biochemistry performed the Tippani dance. As a tribute to the legendary Late Mrs. Sridevi Kapoor, the students from Department of Botany, Bioinformatics and Climate Change Impacts Management presented a unique group dance remembering the Dancing Diva through her popular dances. The students from Department of Botany, Bioinformatics and Climate Change Impacts Management presented a skit on the theme Education focusing on the significance of good primary education for the character building of not only persons but also our nation. The programme was anchored by Ms. Snigdha Dixit from Department of Botany, Bioinformatics and Climate Change Impacts Management. The Staff and Students of Department of Computer Science presented a very creative Quiz for all in the audience and all those who gave correct answers received gifts. The quiz was followed by a video showcasing powerful woman of India. The faculty participation witnessed enthusiastic participation by faculty members, Prof. Jyoti Pareek from Department of Computer Science, Mrs. Shamina from K.S. School of Business Management and Ms. Shilpa Thaker. The prize distribution started with a formal welcome of the guests by Prof. Rajshri Bhatt, Chairperson-ICC. Shri Atma Prakash Kumar was the chief Guest for the function. Dr. Himanshu Pandya, Honourable Vice Chancellor was the President of the function. Prof. Savita Gandhi, Chairperson-WDC gave a quick overview of the activities of WDC-ICC throughout the year. This was followed by Prize distribution and felicitation of the Judges. The Lion’s Club Ahmedabad Main had sponsored the gifts for the judges and the first prizes in Pratibha Competitions. Shri Atma Prakash, Chief Guest recited a few of the translated and original poems by him focusing on women. Dr. Himanshu Pandya, in his speech very rightly suggested that there should not be any competition between women and men. Both have their own respectful existence in the society. He urged one and all present to regard this universal truth to minimize conflicts at home or workplaces. Dr. Archana Mankad, Member Secretary, WDC-ICC delivered the formal vote of thanks wherein besides thanking one and all she thanked all the powerful women in the lives of all working women- mother, mother-in-law, domestic help, cook and the like for taking care of families and homes when women attend to their official duties.
