Department of Botany established in 1959 by (Late) Professor J.J. Chinoy is known all over for researches on Ascorbic acid, Growth and Development, Stress Physiology (Salt and Drought resistance) and Pre-sowing seed treatments. Department has received many research grants from US - PL 480, DST, ICAR, UGC, CSIR, Gujarat Government, NGOs, Industries and other funding agencies etc. Presently, the thrust areas of research have diversified to Stress Physiology, Plant Biotechnology, Plant Biodiversity-Floristic, Systematic Botany, Horticulture, Floriculture, Medicinal plantsPhytochemistry,Ecology, Environmental Biology, Medicinal plants, Fungal Biology, Plant physiology, Palynology, Phytoremediation, Seed technology, Plant Biochemistry,Phycology, Taxonomy, Bioinformatics, Climate Change Impacts Management, Horticultural Science and Garden Management, Plant Tissue Culture and Biodiversity Management.

The department is committed at becoming “CENTER OF LEARNING” empowering students through modernized futuristic syllabi, through innovations in teaching – learning, promotion of research, consultancy and extension for the benefit of the society and quality improvement to enhance global competitiveness that can pave the way to be professional, entrepreneurs and be ATMANIRBHAR.   

The department is aiming at becoming “CENTER FOR EXCELLENCE” focusing on futuristic challenges, providing value-based education, efficiency with financial sustainability leading to socio-economic welfare of the society through enrichment of human capital.

 
GUBS promotes staff and students through healthy competition and skill up gradation. Staff and students take up community services for awareness of health, cleanliness, climate, water use etc.
